Where life happens – Perfect mix of city and country

The above-average range of educational opportunities, excellent medical care and the many cultural and leisure activities on offer in the Ostalbkreis district have long ensured that people feel at home in the towns and communities of the district, and not just because of the wide range of job opportunities. The diverse landscape and multifaceted nature also inspire locals, newcomers and guests.

This varied scenery is both charming and relaxing. While the Keuperwald mountains still predominate in the north, the landscape changes to the south, first to the Alb foothills, then up to the Swabian Alb. The 42 communities are distributed throughout the district in such a way that living is possible both in rural surroundings and in the dynamics of the three large district towns and six cities.

The river valleys of the Jagst, Kocher and Rems have always been social and economic development axes, from which important traffic routes in the Ostalbkreis have emerged. Even today, a large part of the industrial-commercial jobs are located on these axes, which are extremely advantageously connected to the transport network.

The A7 freeway, which also serves as the E43 European road linking Scandinavia with the Alps, runs across the district from north to south, and rail connections between Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Ulm and Augsburg cross the Ostalbkreis at many stations. The comprehensive network of bus routes connects the more than 1,000 residential areas and links them to the centers of the district. Large parts of the Ostalbkreis, especially along the main traffic axes, and the large district towns are very well served by public transport. They thus offer good locational conditions for the Ostalbkreis as an economic and living area. E-mobility is also being promoted in the Ostalbkreis district through a steady expansion of the charging infrastructure. Increasingly, not only private individuals but also bus companies have electric vehicles in use.

The excellent quality of regional products also benefits from the richness of nature. And where there are good ingredients, it is not far to culinary delights. These can be found not only on the menus of the numerous restaurants and country inns, but also at convivial club parties and events.

In order to meet the steadily growing demand for living space in the Ostalbkreis district as well, municipalities and housing associations are developing sustainable construction projects and support measures for the rental of living space. For example, the city of Aalen, in cooperation with Wohnungsbau Aalen GmbH, has launched the „3+2“ housing acquisition program to place the approximately 800 vacant apartments in the city area.

Around 300 childcare facilities and numerous daycare parents support families in the Ostalbkreis district in organizing their everyday lives according to their needs, while their offspring from toddler to preschool age can learn and grow up in a protected environment.
